Before the events of Aladdin, Cassim left his wife and newborn son, Aladdin, but gave his unnamed wife a dagger that he told to give to their child. However, Cassim could not find what his family needed. He came home one night, but found that his family wasgone. Believeing both of them to be dead, Cassim went back to a life of thievery and became the eventual leader of the Forty Thieves.
